Antistiana Cabernet Franc
Antistiana was an ancient Roman town and mansion near the Via Augusta, on the road from Arles to Tarragona (Tarraco) and to Cartagena (Cartago), of uncertain location; perhaps in the triangle between Vilafranca del Penedès, Olèrdola and La Ràpita, near Santa Margarida I els Monjos. Possibly the name was taken by Cayo Antistio, one of the Roman generals who took part in the Cantabrian war.

Roasted, stewed or braised red meats. Mature cheeses. Risottos with vegetables, mushrooms and even grilled fish. Fun combination with chocolate.
The Merlot has possibly never been so well treated in the Penedès as at the hand of Mas Comtal and, as a reflection of this passion, wines like Antistiana Merlot appear, a wine which, long in coming and thus creating even more anticipation, displays the combined strength and elegance of the variety – a French “starlet” wearing a barretina (traditional Catalan hat) and espadrilles providing us with a precise and compelling vision of its personality: balsamic aromas and spices, ripe cherries and full-bodied feel, wafts of aging and all the freedom in the world to show itself to the audience with no masks or makeup. It’s showtime! (Xavier Nolla)
