Petrea Merlot
Wine made with merlot from the plot called “La Feixa Llarga”, merlot vineyard planted in 1982. It is the oldest merlot vineyard. The 2015 harvest was characterized by enjoying an extremely dry and hot summer period, following the trend of recent years. From the resulting harvest, musts were obtained with abundant coloring and tannic matter. Once the first part of vinification is over, the wine is placed in new French oak barrels of medium toast for approximately 12 months.

Vinification
After passing the grapes through the destemmer to separate the grain from the skins, the pulp is cooled and deposited in stainless steel tanks where it ferments at a temperature of 22-24ºC. Maceration with the pulp for about 20 days allows us to extract a sufficient dose of phenolic structure.
Before being put into barrels, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, giving the wine a more elegant acidity.
Ageing
Once this first part of the vinification is complete, the wine is placed in new 300-liter oak barrels from the forests of central France. This time, medium toasted and for approximately 15 months. The wine gains in harmony and subtlety. On an aromatic level, the spicy notes and balsamic touches provided by the barrel stand out.
Roast meats, game meat, cheese.
It is an intense wine of curious production: of the more than four years of aging it has at this time, only twelve months were spent in barrel. The remaining time has gone to a period of repose in the bottle, fining without the wood taking up the aromas of the grapes. It is a dense, dark, powerful, yet elegant wine, which combines ripe fruit with slight notes of spice and a freshness on the palate that suggests it still has years to go to keep offering different nuances.
